Phnom Penh, Cambodia Feb 27, 2013
Cambodian citizen journalists and local media operators will meet in a bridge forum which will be conducted for a full day on Wednesday 27th February, 2013 at the Department of Media and Communication (DMC). The bridge forum aims to connect citizen journalists and radio stations across Cambodia.
Cambodian Center for Independent Media (CCIM) and UNESCO are cooperating under the International Programme for the Development of Communication (IPDC) to work towards sustainable community media, citizen participation and freedom of expression in Cambodia.
During this one day bridge forum, participants will discuss issues related to citizen journalism, media situation in Cambodia and code of ethics. Most importantly, the participants will produce a plan to forge a tighter link between local media and citizen journalists and to increase the number of citizen journalists’ news on broadcast radio.
Citizen journalists trained under the IPDC programme in Mondulkiri, Ratanakiri, and Preah Vihear provinces and radio representatives from fifteen provinces will join this workshop. At least 50 news reports from the IPDC-trained citizen journalists will be broadcast via Sarika FM and other radio stations across Cambodia following the workshop. This initial meeting will offer an opportunity to create a community’s sustainable self-management plan for information sharing between citizen journalists and media.
