The Cambodian Center for Independent Media (CCIM) and VOD would like to thank our loyal audience members, our civil society partners and the many others that have come to the assistance of injured VOD reporter Lay Samean, who was seriously injured in an attack by Khan Daun Penh security guards on May 2. CCIM is incredibly grateful to the many individuals and organizations that have offered both financial and in-kind support to assist Samean following his complicated facial reconstruction surgery last month.
In particular, CCIM would like to thank the following groups, which have donated a total of $5,351.75 USD to the VOD Emergency Fund:
- VOD Audience: VOD’s loyal listeners and Internet audience have given an outstanding outpouring of emotional and financial support to Samean in the month since the attack. To date, VOD audience members have contributed $351.75 USD.
- Civil Rights Defenders: This Stockholm-based organization has donated $4,000 USD toward Samean’s medical treatment through their emergency grants program.
- Forum Asia: Through its Human Rights Defenders program, Forum Asia has pledged $1,000 USD toward Samean’s medical treatment.
- LICADHO: Local human rights organization LICADHO provided immediate, in-kind assistance, including consultations with LICADHO medical staff and logistical assistance for Samean’s medical treatment and transport in Bangkok.
Donations to the VOD Emergency Fund will cover the costs of Samean’s treatment, improvements recommended by a professional security consultant to safeguard VOD reporters in the future, and savings to help CCIM better prepare for future emergencies.
