CCIM launched story grants for women journalists on forest and environment reporting

The Cambodian Center for Independent Media (CCIM) launched a story grants for women journalists and writers to produce journalistic reports on forest and environment issues in Cambodia. Under the project dubbed Citizens Engaged in Enviromental Justice for All (CEEJA) in collaboration with Danmission and a number of civil society groups and funded by the European Union (EU), CCIM will provide a reasonable financial support to interested and qualified women journalists to produce the reports. 

For the first round, six story grants are approved to cover the following topics:
1. Sea horses are still being harmed through use of illegal fishing equipment;
2. Some residents in Batheay district live without water in the last two years;
3. Deforestation of mangrove forests in Kampot province;
4. The impact of people and minorities after the placement of Preah Roka Forest in a wildlife sanctuary;
5. Lake and river deletion  – conservation or development; and
6. Management and impact of plastic waste in agriculture.

The applications for the second round are still being processed and the results will be posted in this article.

The reports will be produced in Khmer language and will be published on CCIM’s online media platform VOD Khmer , Facebook page Environmental Justice, and on this website.   The reports will be discussed also in the radio program “Environmental Justice”  aired every third Wednesday of the month from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm and a rebroadcast in the succeeding first Wednesday of the month.
