CCIM launches Newsroom Training Program

CCIM launches the first one-of-a-kind Newsroom Training Program in Cambodia with 11 trainees for the first batch beginning September up to November 2019.

A three-month full-time hands-on training program the trainees will learn about, among others, story ideas and angles, interviewing, article structure and writing, media law, journalism ethics, and digital security.

The trainees are also incorporated into the VOD newsroom by attending morning editorial meetings to better understand news ideas and angles, shadow professional journalists on reporting assignments, assist VOD reporters in gathering information, contribute story ideas, and report news stories for VOD as a group or individually.

A website Newsroom Cambodia is created for this training program where the stories, in Khmer and English languages, produced by the trainees are published.

The batches of training program are scheduled on the following period: September 2019 to November 2019, December 2019 to March 2020, March 2020 to June 2020, July 2020 to September 2020, October 2020 to December 2020, and January 2021 to April 2021.

The training program will be administered by CCIM until April 2021 targeting a total of 72 trainees in six batches of training schedules. The training program is supported under a project “Social Media Rights in Tech (SMART): Enhancing use of ICT by human rights defenders and media to increase freedom of expression and access to information” managed by Dan Church Aid (DCA).
